hype can kill a game?

gta iv, spore,halo 3 , gears 2 , lair , too human and more am looking at you o.0 i would do a poll but i dont know how too : ( hype can kill a game?

I think SPORE is the prefect example of how hype can bring down a game. People were expecting something with a hell of alot more depth than what was given.
i thought halo 3 and gears 2 more than lived up to their hype. GTA4 i think was even a decent game, maybe not the best of the series or deserved of it's score it was by no means a bad game. Lair, too human and spore are the product of hyping something because you see some potential, when they were never meant to be aaa games. But really a 10 year in the making game that they kept redoing isn't going to come out good.
