Famitsu horrifically overrates JRPGs. Just look at Blue Dragon.



That's not to say this will be a bad game. Lost Odyssey was very good, but poorly rated.

But I think most Western reviewers underrate JRPGs because either you love or you hate 'em. And I think I would enjoy Blue Dragon.

You THINK you would enjoy Blue Dragon? As in, you haven't played it? I have, and it really is just a mediocre RPG. Lost Odyssey is a game that review scores like Gamespot's will throw you off of - Blue Dragon is one that it should rightly keep you away from.



I'm not going to argue about whether western reviewers underrate JRPGs, because I believe some do and some don't, but I *know* Famitsu overrates them. They aren't immune to hype either, and I fully believe they suffer from the Halo effect for big name JRPGs - overlooking faults and buying into hype. Just because they're overseas doesn't mean they don't suffer from a lot of the same things reviewers here do...

It is also a Flop for the PS3 for Next Year. Looks like not a good start for next year, a game already flopped. :roll:It haven't flopped, not reviewed by Gamespot. It also wasn't hyped that much, and no offical hype score.

Yep, you're right. Never played Blue Dragon. And I agree that they might overrate JRPG's but that doesn't make them any bad. We'll have to wait what other sites give the game. Game Informer, GamePro and OXM aren't my prefered sources. I hope and I think the game will get something between 7.5 and 8.5. I hope it's 8.5 :P
at least they have something to flop around.. where are my JRPGs Sony.. i'm still waiting for truely ps3 JRPG. althought games like LBP, fallout3 give me something to play with.. I want my wild arms, shikoden, dragon quest, and my final fantasy.

Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 3 and soon (I hope so) White Knight Chronicles isn't that bad.
