http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=news%26cid=16252So in conclusion, please be aware that installing Halo 3 to your HDD will actually result in longer load times and thus a less optimal experience than if you run the game from the disc drive. This happens due to the way Halo 3 already uses a HDD to cache data and once you do an install, you are copying between two different areas of the same drive as you are loading a map.
If you just plan to play campaign or offline content, you may feel that the tradeoff is worth it in order to have a slightly quieter Xbox 360 and reduced impact to your disc drive. However, if you play Halo 3 online, please be aware that increased map loading times can have a negative impact to everyone's experience. In some cases, it could take considerably longer to load multiplayer maps, meaning that everyone you are matched with is also stuck waiting for your maps to load. If people start to lose patience, you then have scenarios of players leaving parties and aborting matching because they don't want to wait. This adds to the problem, creating a cycle where more and more people have a harder time getting into the games they want to play. To avoid this negative situation, we are advising that Halo 3 players do not install the game to their HDD. Halo 3 cant take the HDD Install!!!!
No big deal, just don't install it. Halo 3 cant take the HDD Install!!!!
yeah not a big deal...but nice to know
That sucks....
Kind of ironic. MS' biggest game ever is gimped when installed to the harddrive.:P
Typical, that's the 1 game I was thinking of installing.
Kind of ironic. MS' biggest game ever is gimped when installed to the harddrive.:P
That is only because of how it was programmed to load game content.
Not a game I think of when we're talking loading times.
Halo 3 was at the top of my install priorities. Unfortunate that it couldn't use this advantageous HDD feature.
were supposed to care about this why again?
okay. just run it off the disc.
didnt care cause halo 3 was never loud nor where loading screens long and i already installed chromehounds to my tiny 20gb so it would mean delete all videos for another install
So I guess 6 million plus units sold, millions upon millions of matches played and stellar reviews from around the world and Halo 3 is finally a failure.Happy?
That sucks....
it does, who would have thought that.
when were halo 3 loading times a big deal?

Yah, definitely.
I could run around the block while the game loads up.
Waaay too long.
I was hoping HDD installs would help it.
Oh, wells.
Run it off of the disc... it was designed to use the hard drive before you could install it to the hard drive. They didn't know this would happen.
i have just 3 demos on my HDD, no other media, and i only have about 2 gigs left after installing gears 2.... its already becoming an issue for me. i would like to install more than 1 game on there
Well i'm keeping mine on my HDD regardless, the reason is simple, i guarantee a lot of others will be aswell, therefor if i will likely get the possible loading delay anyway due to the other players doing it then i may aswell do it myself, and TBH i've not really noticed any difference at all in the MP load times, therefor i'll keep it for the quiter CD tray. IMO if the really do think there is a real problem then they need to make it so the main game cannot load off the HDD via an update.
I installed it to the HDD before they sent out the statement, and I did notice some slower load times.
