From the article:''According to JPR, current world wide combined console sales for the latest generation of home consoles (PS3, XB360, Wii) total somewhere close to 75.7 million units shipped. from rockpapershotgun.comCleverthinks research company Jon Peddie Research have put together a report on the state of the PC hardware market, and it's looking good. Peddie says: ''From Q3 2005 till Q3 2008, 196 million gaming PCs shipped, and 10 million of them were in the Mainstream Enthusiast class-and if we include mainstream desktop and High-end high-end notebook, we could add another 187 million units-now that really is a lot.''The Techwatch article (currently on the front page of the Peddie site) seems astonished at the rude health of the PC gaming industry compared to the fledgling consoles. In fact it gets a little sarcastic about the HDTV fanfare from console types: ''Thankfully HD TVs are sneaking into the living room bringing 720p and, in some cases, 1080i capability. Imagine, 720p almost as good as 1024 x 768-old XGA resolution introduced by IBM in 1988-wow.''Peddie sums it up: ''Fact is the PC Gaming Market is bigger, worth more money, growing faster, and has better technology than the console market. How come no one but us seems to know that?''
pc is coming back big in full force, thanks to ps3 and xbox360. the development fees is so high for these consoles, that developers have no choice but to risk dumping there properties on the pc. I decided to go pc gaming thanks to those other 2 consoles.

They lost the little credibility they had.

Hell, The Witcher (which is a fairly niche RPG) sold 1+ million. Tons upon tons of others have as well. It balances out as well considering the royalty fees are hefty when making a game on a console. Plus the development costs on the PC are far less than others. Edit: They're not including my PC. :( I built it myself from hardware bought from websites. That's as bad as NPD not counting digital distribution for their PC sales. You have to count everything.
Sure the hardware sells, but what about the games? Isn't that what really matters? All these hardware sales for ''gaming PCs'' just don't add up to the weak software sales. ''While it's certainly good news that the PC gaming master race is continuing to grow and that the hardware market is sound, we still have concerns about the state of the PC gaming especially as more and more titles go multi-format and intellectual property piracy becomes ever more rampant. While the hardware is out there, the sales figures are clear that it's not being utilised in a gaming breadth anywhere near as wide as consoles.'' Funny all these ''gaming PCs'' just to play WoW and the sims, yay pc gaming.http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/11/19/gaming-pc-market-bigger-than-you-d-expect/1#last

Why are PC gamers so insecure.
360 has 30 plus million sellers. How many does PC have since 2005?

Piracy? Sure, piracy is a problem on any platform (other than PS3 atm till a bluray burner is made). And of course PC has it a bit more than others. Less than 25% of PC gamers pirate any games at all though. So it's not as if all do it (if anyone thought that they need help). PC games do sell well but piracy does hurt the sales a bit. These gaming PC's are far from only being WoW and Sims PC's. Hell, Crysis alone sold around 2 million copies and that had steeper than usual requirements.

[/QUOTE]So with 196 million gaming PCs most titles can barely muster 1 million copies, thats weak IMO. I'm willing to bet if there were 196 million xbox 360's, Halo 3 would've sold 50million plus. Sure there is piracy on consoles but it is nowhere near as bad as it is on PC. Sure titles like gears 2, GTAIV, and others are leaked early, but they still sell millions. Gears 2 did 2.1 million the first day alone. I think GTAIV did 9 million on both consoles. Where are those type of sales with pc games other than WoW?
