PS3 Trophies are now mandatory

http://www.videogamer.com/news/20-11-2008-9989.htmlSorry if old.PS3 Trophies are now mandatory
That's good, about time. I don't really care for trophies or achievements but a lot of people do so it's good to see Sony address that.PS3 Trophies are now mandatory
trophies just doesnt scream excitement like achievements.
Misleading title. Is the future now ?

[/QUOTE] Really? In overall concept, theyr'e the same, sure. But in implementation, they're very different. Of course, one was standard from the get-go, the other is not. Also, you can share achievements more easily than trophies since you can include them via Xbox.com and whichever internet widget exists for it... and it updates dynamically because MS lets everyone have access to the achievement data.Trophy data is still only accessible while on the console. Sony is only now allowing a PSN login on the Sony site. And widgets like triple tags still require you to update your trophies yourself. Unless they get those things fixed, achievements will always have an advantage.

They are the same end of story. Just cause I can see one on the PC and not the other doesint make it better. Its true fanboyism to think one is better then the other.
Neither trophies nor achievements make games better anyway.... Replay value? I'm not going to replay anything just because my console tells me I'm a good boy for doing so.

They talk to me and I call them mother.

Not necessarily. With the 360 version it is on every single game that has come out, and it is a lot easier to view your friends' achievements of all their games....I still don't know how to view my friends' achievements, and believe me that matters for me, since I can use that to compete or see what achievements I can get from that specific game. Sure, they are the same concept, but you must have issues not to acknowledge that achievements are implemented a whole lot better than PS3 trophies.....

Maybe not for you, but I know I replayed Eternal Sonata on my 360 just to get 660 achievement points.......I would not have replayed it if I had the PS3 version.

I do it all the time.

to be fair, now its the same thing, since it will be mandatory to all PS3 games.
Sony said Trophies would be mandatory sometime in 2009, but I didn't know they literally meant from January 1st. Kudos to them, now they need to sort out the cross game voice chat.

All they need to do I guess is to implement them in a lot more games, so now mandatory should mean that all games from now on. The only game I have that uses trophies is Linger in the Shadows....and that's not even a game. I am still furious that disgaea has not trophies, I should have had every trophy in that game if it was on it.

Part of the functionality of achievements and trophies is the ability to effortlessly share them with others. It helps foster a sense of community. That DOES make achievments better. Sony was even hawking the idea of sharing trophies with the community via a trophy room, etc in Home. I'm more than willing to see how things unfold, but ... that functionality simply isn't there yet. It's not possible to do things like MyGamerCard.net or 360voice.com for trophies. In my eyes, trophies being mandatory is only half the battle.
